When the refrigerator defrosts continuously, water flows out of the refrigerator through a small hole (you can see it if you open the refrigerator), through which it drains into a container located near the motor. The air temperature in these areas is naturally higher, so the water will quickly evaporate on its own. If your refrigerator starts to leak, it can be due to a number of problems, but the most common is a clogged drain.
Clogs can occur in the hole in the refrigerator, in the space between the hole and the drain at the motor that goes into the garbage can (in these cases, water will be at the bottom of the refrigerator, most often in the bottom drawers), or even in the drain itself (water will leak outside of the refrigerator).
If you find that the hole in your refrigerator is clogged, try cleaning it by removing any particularly visible debris (pieces of food, frozen liquid, etc.).
How do I clean the drain in my refrigerator? Use a special plastic plug that should come with your refrigerator. If you don’t have one, a long wire or whatever you can use to get into the drain will also help.
Simply mechanically clean the clogged drain at the container where the water is coming out.
A power outage for an extended period of time can also cause water leaks in or around the refrigerator. Newer models can continue to cool for several hours, but older models will literally leak after just a short time.
