Modern appliances make household tasks much easier. But they don’t always run like clockwork. What you should do when you dishwasher doesn’t turn on or fill with water?
There can be several reasons why your dishwasher stops working. Often these are fairly simple malfunctions that can be fixed without the help of a service center. The first step should always be to consult your owner’s manual.
- Dishwasher does not turn on
The first step to troubleshooting a dishwasher malfunction is a thorough inspection. If you have tried to turn on the dishwasher but nothing happens, it means no light on the display, the problem is most likely in the power supply. Check the power supply, all cables and fuses.
It may be enough to reset the dishwasher, or unplug it and plug it back in, or turn off and on the fuse it is connected to. If the display comes on, but the dishwasher continues to refuse to work, try just holding down the power button for a long time and then turning it back on.
The dishwasher may not work if the door is not closed properly or if there is a problem with the door switch, which may be loose. In this case it can be tightened with a screwdriver (make sure that the dishwasher is unplugged).
If you have not used the dishwasher for a long time, you may have problems starting the motor. A stuck motor is indicated by a noise when you try to start the dishwasher. Unplug it or turn off the main fuses. Remove the bottom panel under which the motor is located. Wear protective gloves. Find the motor propeller inside the dishwasher and try turning it slightly. If it cannot be turned, we recommend to call a service center.
- Dishwasher does not fill with water
Another common problem with dishwashers is that they do not fill with water or fill too slowly and the washing process is ineffective.
The first thing to check is the water supply. Perhaps the supply hose is clogged with limescale and needs to be cleaned. After turning off the dishwasher, check the float switch inside. The float is usually in the form of a small plastic cap or cylinder and is mounted on the bottom of the appliance. You should be able to move it up and down and hear a clicking sound. If the float is dirty, take it out, clean it with a brush and wash it. Clean the surrounding area before returning it to the dishwasher. Poor water pressure can also be the cause of a slow fill. Check if the tap is fully open.
