Some cleaning products contain harsh chemicals. Still, nature has provided housekeepers with safe and effective ways to attack dirty oven racks. Details on three such methods have been shared with readers of the following paragraphs.
3 of the safest ways to get the job done
Get your hands on some dryer sheets and dish washing liquid. Put the racks on the bottom of a bath tub, and put the dryer sheets on the side of the same tub. Cover the racks with water and add ½ cup of liquid soap. Let racks soak overnight. By the next morning the dried food should be soft; it should get pulled off with ease, when rubbed by a dryer sheet.
Collect some baking soda and vinegar. Put each dirty rack on the bottom of a bathtub; sprinkle all of them with baking soda. Cover them with vinegar and watch them foam. When foaming stops, add hot water and soak the dirty parts from the oven for 8-10 hours. Have a toothbrush ready in the morning, when it comes time to remove the baked-on food.
Try this if you worry about the rack’s ability to scratch the tub’s surface. Put old towels under each rack; use old sponges under each rack’s corners. Cover them with water and 1 cup of dishwasher powder. Soak them overnight, rinsing off the soap in the morning. Use a scouring pad if necessary, in order to remove all the dried food.
There are two alternative methods. Be careful about using those. Be sure to follow the recommended precautions as provided by the appliance repair specialists in San Diego County.
2 methods that call for special equipment, in order to limit the associated dangers
Wear protective gloves and take the objects you plan to clean into an open outdoor space. Cover the surface with a layer of plastic before placing any rack on top of it. Spray racks with oven cleaner. Let sprayed objects sit 10 minutes and rinse off the cleaner.
Wear protective gloves and goggles. Take what you need to clean and put it in a trash bag. Add 1 qt. of ammonia and close the bag securely; put same bag in trash can overnight. The next morning, open the bag in a well-ventilated area; rinse the soaked metal parts with water from a hose.
Do not think that you can abandon all precautions once you put a baking dish or casserole dish, on a clean rack. Be careful about how you dispose of the used trash bag. Make sure that it has been allowed to air-out completely, before it gets re-used or thrown in the trash. There are other aspects that you need to consider when cleaning the ovens and if you are unable to do it on your own, call in the professionals.
