LG washing machines are reliable Korean appliances that rarely fail. Nevertheless, this year alone, technicians at an appliance repair service in San Diego County have repaired more than 2,000 of this brand’s washing machines. According to our statistics, the most common breakdowns in LG washing machines are the following parts.
As a rule, in the heating elements the coil burns out or the case burns through. In the latter case, water gets on the coil and a short circuit occurs. Almost always the breakdown of the heater is connected with scale: impurities from tap water, particles of undissolved powder, lint, and garbage from clothes – all this adheres to the heater body and reduces its thermal conductivity. Trying to heat the water to the desired value, the “overgrown” heater works too intensively. Because of this and burns out the coil or burns out the housing.
The drain pump over time is clogged with debris (lint, small things forgotten in the pockets, fittings from clothes, coins). Because of this it “jams”, and/or the pump motor fails or the impeller blades break.
Control Module Failure
As in any washing machine, the LG control module is responsible for all the “intellectual” work of the washer. Most often, its breakdowns are associated with surges in voltage in the electrical system or ingress of moisture. Because of this, the circuit boards burn out or individual elements burn out. If the module begins to “malfunction”, the machine can produce almost any irregularities in the process of operation.
The main cause of bearing failure is wear and tear from vibration loading. As a rule, machines with more than 5 years of service are prone to this. However, if LG was very actively used or it was systematically overloaded, the breakdown may occur earlier. The mechanics of failure is simple: from vibration bearings gradually come loose, the packing gets weaker, water gets inside, and the bearing rusts and collapses.
The door seal is leaking
The cuff, the rubber seal on the door, most often suffers from sharp objects and/or clothing fittings left in pockets (“dogs”, zippers, brassiere bones, rivets, etc.). These will stick or tear into the rubber when washing. In rare cases, the cuff can get rusty due to prolonged use.
Door lock device defective
The hatch locking device is the part responsible for locking the door during the execution of the program. If it is broken, the machine does not start washing or does not open after the end of the program.
As a rule, the motors in LG fail due to the occurrence of inter-voltage short circuits in the windings of the stator or rotor. Sometimes the lamellas in LG models with a collector motor peel off.
Clogging of drainage way
Hair, pet hair, lint from fabrics, small debris, detergent residue – all of this can lead to clogging in the drain pipe, filter, pump, drain hose, or drainage system. Because of this, water does not leave the tank or leaves very slowly.
Filler valve failure
The fill valve consists of a diaphragm and a solenoid coil, which is responsible for opening the diaphragm. Over time, the coil fails, and as a consequence – the membrane does not open, and the washing machine does not receive water. If a one-section valve is installed – the water does not come in at all. And if the two-sectional is broken – the water does not come only at rinsing or only at washing.
Wear and tear of motor brushes.
Most modern LG washing machines are produced with a direct drive, and in older models, a collector-type motor was used. These motors have graphite brushes. They are responsible for transferring voltage from the stator to the rotor and creating torque to rotate the drum. As they are used, the brushes wear out and the motor’s power decreases. If the brushes are short, the machine cannot reach high spin speeds. If erased at all (less than 1 centimeter) – the drum does not rotate at all.
Repair of modern complex equipment is better to trust professionals! “Self-repair” can lead to even more serious and expensive elimination of breakdowns. Do not risk your washing machine LG, call or book your service. The experienced technicians at an appliance repair service in San Diego County will come to your call in no time at all.
